An overturned chair, an ornamental imprint in the foam, a bottle’s contents still spilling onto the table. In Eladio Aguilera’s works, something has always just occurred. Barely missed, the protagonists seem to have deserted the scene, leaving behind the traces of a fragmented narrative. On the stage of this actorless theater, the visitor becomes a witness – and sometimes an heir – to a story still being written. Narratives unfold through space, shared, social, and shaped by those who inhabit it.
Within a scenography of absence, clues to what has been and what might be immerse the observers in a sensory experience wherein every anomaly recounts what is happening out of sight. Objects carry the memory of their use; mishaps and minor accidents evoke familiar gestures, suggesting relationships and suspended interactions.
Eladio Aguilera thus embraces an aesthetic of the “after,” filled with nostalgic nods, which do not glorify a bygone past but contribute to the survivance of forms. Fallen leaves, dried flowers, and yellowed papers are part of a continuum, a cyclical pattern in which each reference is a reactivation, a reconfiguration. They are cultural fragments, social phenomena that each era refuses to let fade away.
From installation to curation, Eladio Aguilera conceives space as a material that is anything but static – one shaped collectively by each viewer, with every new rendering. His scenes remain open, ready to be reenacted and displaced by those who pass through them and, inevitably, rewrite them.
