David Revés

Born in 1992, lives and works between Portugal and Sweden.

David Revés is an independent curator, author and researcher based between Portugal and Sweden.
His practice is characterized by an intersectional approach between art, critical theory and philosophy. He is interested in the way art and the so-called speculative practices question the underlying mechanisms of history-writing. History is indeed strongly marked by systems of domination or by the idea of progress, responsible for the ecological catastrophe towards which we are heading. David Revés highlights artistic practices in which gestures of profanation - like critical diversion, sabotage, reversal of values - give rise to alternative narratives of desirable futures, mingling human and non-human existences.

Encounter / screening with David Revés

David Revés is an independent curator and researcher based between Portugal and Sweden.
In the context of his residency at Artistes en résidence, David Revés will give a talk about his ongoing research on “profanations”.

He will consider the profaning gesture as something positive and potent, as well as a speculative movement that gives rise to new relational modes of engaging with the world. The idea is to question the process of History-making by focusing on counter-movements that highlight unconsidered or invisible materialities, capable of reshaping the past and envisioning new futures.

In his presentation at La Diode, he will show some examples of profanation in the course of Western History, before briefly presenting his last curatorial project in Portugal called "Profanations" and screen some artist films that deeply relate to his research.
