Annelein Pompe

Born in 1988, lives and works in Brussels, Belgium.

Annelein Pompe likes to dig up stories that hide in the interstices of our mostly unconsidered daily lifes. The Dutch painter and filmmaker blurs the boundaries between documentary and fiction by interweaving autobiographical elements, stories from her surroundings and daydreams. The narrative threads follow playful associations of ideas and jump between the now and then, the here and elsewhere. With humor, curiosity and a great sense of composition, she thus transforms a grizzled reality into a colorful contemporary tale.

During her residency at A·R, Annelein Pompe worked on writing and shooting her next film.
Horror no Horror is the working title of this film, shot here in Clermont-Ferrand, with Roberta Petzoldt and Bart Hoevenaars. Her shooting was hosted by the École Supérieure d'art de Clermont Métropole, the École Nationale Supérieure d'architecture Clermont-Ferrand and by Somme Toute.
The film is about a woman who takes us on a journey in her own head after her phone fell into her brain (filming) by mistake, during an open brain surgery.

This film is still being edited, and this residency outing will be an opportunity for her to share this work-in-progress through a screening and open discussion.

Annelein Pompe will also be screening De Schaduwwerkers (The Shadow Workers), her latest film made in 2021. (VOSTFR)
The film tells the story of a night-shift worker, a young girl who goes about her job as a shop assistant without much enthusiasm, and obsessed pigeon fanciers (very much in vogue in Flanders), all brought to life by this strange pigeon with an inverted head. In other words, he sees everything upside down.
