Residency period : 100 days between 2027/03/01 - 2028/02/29
The results will be announced by email mid July 2026.

The residency

Created in 2011 in Clermont-Ferrand, Artistes en résidence (A·R) is a non-profit organization that supports contemporary creation by organizing residencies for artists in the field of visual arts. We support international mobility of artists and the circulation of ideas and skills through the development of a vast network of local, national and international partners.

At A·R, residencies are considered as a time entirely dedicated to research and experimentation with no obligation to finalize a production. Our goal is to provide artists with the necessary time for qualitative and in-depth research, to promote a true immersion in the local context, and to allow for trial and error as well as critical questioning necessary for the development of artistic practices.

Inaugurated in 2020, the 100-day residency program aims at welcoming artists of all ages and nationalities to Clermont-Ferrand for a period of 100 days. Selected artists are free to organize their residency as suited to their availability, whether it be over 100 consecutive days or dispersed over the course of one year. This flexibility takes into consideration the varied realities of artists and allows time for reflection, research and experimentation compatible with the artists’ professional and private obligations.

The selection jury takes an inclusive approach, ensuring a balance between emerging and established artists, between genders, nationalities and practices.
We encourage you to read the guidelines carefully, as incomplete or non-compliant applications will not be considered.

The residency comprises :

  • A residency grant of 4,500 euros gross and all taxes included.

  • A production budget up to 1000 euros gross and all taxes included.

  • Travel costs can be covered up to 800 euros per artist. A·R covers at least one round trip for each selected artist, even if this one round trip exceeds 800 euros. Visa fees are to be covered by the artists. An invitation letter can be provided by A·R to support the visa application or applications for additional mobility grants.

  • The accommodation is a private bedroom in a fully equipped three bedroom apartment - with a bathroom and kitchen as well as a garden – shared with other residents. |images here|

  • Artists have access to a 160 square meters studio space, shared by up to 3 residents. This studio is located on Artistes en résidence's premises in the multidisciplinary complex La Diode, shared, amongst others, with Les Ateliers, an association that manages 17 studios for local artists on site. Selected artists have access to technical equipment shared between the two associations (equipped wood and metal workshop, portable power tools, two ceramic kilns, MIG welding station, audio-visual equipment, sewing machine, computer room with desktop and an A3 printer/scanner, 3D printer...). |images here|

  • Fostering meetings and exchanges, A·R’s team offers mentorship to artists and provides contacts of various art professionals, researchers, craftsmen and women or any other person who can contribute to the development of their practice.

  • The artists may, if they wish, organize or take part in a public event during which they can present their work or research. There is no obligation to present their work publicly if artists do not wish to do so. Artists can benefit from a flat fee of 150 euros for up to one public event during their residency. The completed application form accessible at the bottom of this page.

To apply, artists must send the following :

  • The completed application form accessible at the bottom of this page.

  • A portfolio of 20 pages maximum (max 20MB) including an artist statement and a selection of images concerning the artistic practice.

  • A CV

  • A note of intent of two pages maximum.

Notes :

  • For the note of intent, artists are not expected to outline a specific project for the residency, but rather to clarify their needs and/or their interest in the 100-day residency program, or in an artist residency in general. It is specified that the 100-day residency program is a research residency with no requirement to finalize a production. In their note of intent, artists may highlight their ongoing research, their expectations regarding how the residency might expand their body of work and/or develop their professional network, their need for a studio or paid working time, their connection or interest in the region, or any other reason that explains their motivation to apply.

  • As the jury is international, the note of intent must be written in English. It is also recommended (but not mandatory) to submit the portfolio in English, in order to facilitate the understanding of the artist’s practice. English proficiency is not evaluated, and the use of automatic translation tools is allowed.

  • Due to the high volume of applications, a concise portfolio ensures a fair evaluation by the jury. Applications that do not respect the 20-page maximum requirement will be rejected.

  • This call is exclusively for artists whose practice falls within the field of visual arts. Applications from other disciplines - such as music, dance, theatre, film, crafts or literature - will not be accepted.

  • Unfortunately, we are not able to support duo or collective practices for financial and logistical reasons.

Hosting conditions :

  • A·R strives to provide pleasant and suitable hosting and working conditions for everyone. In this regard, A·R is committed to fighting against sexual and gender-based violence and harassment, as well as any form of discrimination. Therefore, any behavior that constitutes or resembles violence - whether on A·R’s premises or outside - will not be tolerated and may result in sanctions ranging from a warning to an exclusion from the residency program. If needed, alternative accommodation solutions or adjustments to residency schedules may be considered.

  • Hosting of artists’ partners and families is possible under certain conditions. Those concerned may contact the team to discuss the specific arrangements.

  • The apartment, located on the third floor of a building without an elevator, is not accessible to people with reduced mobility. Suitable solutions can be found on a case-by-case basis; those concerned may contact A·R to discuss possible arrangements.

Jury and Selection:

  • The application deadline is February 1st, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. (French time).

  • The selection committee is composed of the co-coordinators of A·R, former residents of the 100-day residency program and international art professionals.

  • Three artists will be selected.

  • The selection criteria are the quality of the artistic work, the clarity of presentation of the practice, the relevance of the practice within the residency context, and the benefits the artist may gain from the residency.

  • Due to the very high number of applications, results will be communicated by email mid-July 2026.

  • Artists may apply to all ongoing calls from Artistes en résidence.
